Montessori preschool and kindergarten in Purcellville
Ages 3 to 6 years
Children’s House brings ages 3 to 6 together in the Willow and Jasmine rooms, from preschool through kindergarten. Children choose hands-on work, take part in individual and small group lessons, and learn alongside younger and older classmates.
Children arrange flowers, care for materials, and help garden by planting, watering, and harvesting.
Sensorial
The pink tower, brown stair, and other sensorial materials invite children to refine their senses — comparing size, shape, and dimension with their hands.
Language
The language area builds vocabulary through conversation, books, and storytelling. Guides present sandpaper letters and the movable alphabet in individual and small group lessons, as children move from sounds to words to reading.
Math
Number rods and golden beads give children concrete, hands-on ways to explore quantity, numerals, and the decimal system.
Culture
Maps, land-water forms, and cultural materials invite children to explore geography, nature, and the world around them.
Authentic Montessori Learning in a Supportive Mixed-Age Community
In Children’s House, children of different ages learn alongside one another, inspiring and supporting each other every day. This mixed-age community builds leadership, empathy, and confidence as children learn by observing, collaborating, and doing meaningful work.

Morning work period
Children typically have a morning work period of about three hours, choosing materials and taking part in individual and small group lessons.
Outdoor and community time
The day includes outdoor play, stories, and practice with grace and courtesy.
After-lunch rest or kindergarten work
After lunch, children outside the kindergarten year rest while kindergarten children begin a second work period.
Aftercare from 3 p.m.
After 3 p.m., aftercare begins with materials, group activities, and crafts.
Children’s House is a 5-day program. Ask our administration about current availability.
Current enrichment may include Spanish, soccer, music, and art; included in tuition where offered, subject to change.
How families see progress
Families have two parent-teacher conferences and receive three progress reports each year, along with work portfolios. The detailed care logs used in younger rooms taper off here.
